Snapshot History: The Wrightsville & Tennille Railroad Company was originally incorporated under the laws of Georgia on December 23, 1883 as the Wrightsville & Sun Hill Railroad Company. The name was changed to the above within a year. In December of 1886, the Dublin and Wrightsville was consolidated into the company. In February of 1889, the Oconee & Western Railroad was absorbed. In July of 1907 the Dublin & Southwestern Railroad, already controlled by stock ownership, was merged into the company. as of 1917 the main line was 182.82 miles in length and operated from Tennille to Hawkinsville Georgia, and from Dunlin to Eastman, Georgia. The W.& T. also used 17.92 miles of sidings, spurs and yard tracks plus 0.78 miles of connecting trackage rights over the Southern Railway. The company had nine locomotives on the motive power roster and 126 passenger and freight cars. By 1931 the number of locomotives had dropped to seven, and the number of passenger and freight cars to 36. Rail was listed as from 40 to 80 pounds. The company, still in full operation, was in the black, and had paid dividends in both 1929 and 1930. As of 1943 the company reported its main line to be shortened to 36.24 miles in length from Tennille to Dublin, Georgia. There were 11.10 miles of yard tracks and sidibgs. They had three locomotives and 16 freight, passenger and service cars remaining. Revenue was sufficient to support 50 employees. Ever since before 1930, The Central of Georgia Railway Co. had held a controling interest in the Wrightsville & Tennille. Finaly, in July of 1971, the C. of G. absorbed the remaining company. The Central of Georgia, in turn was controlled by the Illinois Central through stock ownership.
