THE WESTERN PACIFIC RR COMPANY
================================
Photogrphic Note: The pictures in our collection are mostly those of Fred C. Stoes. A Southern Pacific railroadman himself and an excellent photographer, he had the knowledge and skills to take quality photo's throughout the system. The following represent many of those views. Excellent Reference: Western Pacific Steam Locomotives, 1980 By: Guy L. Dunscomb and Fred A. Stindt
VIEW INDEXING: The Western Pacific Company Database is layed out with those items which represent train numbers first. The majority of the views follow and are indexed first by the letters "WP" and then by locomotive number. The last items are those which are not able to be indexed by the previous methods. They include group locomotive shots, depots and other structures.

In June of 1936 the Western Pacific took advantage of the economic times with the purchase of 10 twelve-year old 4-8-2 locomotives from the cash strapped Florida East Coast Railway for $12,500 each. For the next 14 years the engines, #171 through #180, would be seen throughout the system doing much of the work on the Company's passenger trains to frequent freight service.
