VERMONT RAILWAY (VR)

Historical Snapshot: * Incorporated January 6, 1964 to operate the state owned former Rutland Railroad (abandoned 1963) 125 mile line from White Creek, New York via Burlington to Benington, Vermont. * 1967 - Company entered into intermodal business. * 1972 - Bought parallel Clarendon and Pittsford Railroad and abandoned most of the maine line keeping its customer spurs and sidings. Also purchased Delaware & Hudson branch from Rutland, Vermont to Whitehall. New York. * 1997 - Acquired controlling interest Green Mountain Railroad, North Walpole, Newhamshire to Rutland, Vermont. It continues to operate under its own entity. * 1999 - Acquired control of the Washington County Railroad's two divisions and the port terminal railroad the New York and Ogdensburg. * 2008 - All now operate under what is termed the "Vermont Railway System".
