Snapshot History: Utah Railway * Incorporated on January 24, 1912. * The Utah Railway continues to this day operating 45 miles of owned right-of-way and 378 miles of trackage rights over BNSF and UP. Further, it owns the 25 mile Salt Lake City Southern Railroad which operates a switching service from Salt Lake City to Draper, Utah. * During the steam days the railroad operated several 2-8-0's and some large 2-8-8-0's. When it dieselized in 1952 & 1953, the company went with 1,600 hp, 6-axle, Alco RSD4's and RSD5's. Later the company went with RSD12's andRSD15's. It wasn't until the early 1970's, that they went with EMD. * In 2002 the owners, Sharon Steel Company, sold the company to Genesee & Wyoming operations.
