TEXAS SOUTH-EASTERN RAILROAD CO.
=================================

Snapshot History: Texas South-Eastern Rwy. The Texas South-Eastern was originally incorporated under the laws of Texas on October 9, 1900 as the Texas Southeastern Railway Company. It went through various paper changes over the years, becoming a Common Carrier in 1909 and a reorganization in 1931 (probably Depression related). Susequently operating as the Texas South-Eastern Railroad Company, it primarily supported the lumber businesses in the Diboll, Texas area. Whether a private concern or a public utility, it had a connection to, if not controlled by, the Temple Family/Southern Pine Lumber Company interests of Texas. At one time or another it was responsible for operating as much as 80 miles of railroad. Much of that, however, was through trackage rights for its log trains over the Cotton Belt and portions of the Southern Pine Lumber Company. Over the last 100 plus years of operation the Mainline has primarily involved 17.5 miles from Diboll to Lufkin and a 5.3 mile branch from Blix to Vair. Milage listed as of 1910 (According to the Company's schedule when they offered direct passenger service from Diboll to Lufkin and Diboll to Vair): mi. Station mi. Station ---- ------- ---- ------- 0.0 Diboll 4.0 McEnroe 7.0 Blix - - -> 7.0 Blix 11.2 Peavy 9.8 Gilbert 17.5 Lufkin 12.3 Vair According to a 1926 Equipment Roster the company owned seven 36'9'' 30-ton box cars, #1001-#1008. Their motive power included 12 locomotives. Passenger equipment included one motorcar #400 and two baggae/passenger combine cars #1 & #4. 1941 Snapshot: The mainline extends 10.3 miles from Diboll to Vair Texas. Also, it operates a 9.85 mile branch from Blix to Lufkin. Likewise, there are 5.99 miles yard, siding and spur tracks, and 0.76 miles of Frisco trackage rights. Motive power and equipment: Two-steam locomotives, two passenger cars, one flat car, 3-MOW. It Connects with T&NO/SP at Diboll; Frisco and Nachez River RR at Lufkin. Profitable the last two years. In operation today primarily as a switching service to customers at Diboll and at Lufkin. Because the Union Pacific makes connection at both locations there is not much need for trains between the two points.
