STOCKTON, TERMINAL & EASTERN RAILROAD (STE)

Snapshot History: The Stockton Terminal & Eastern was incorporated to build and operate a 29.4 mile railroad from Stockton to Jenny Lind, California on October 29, 1908. On February 15, 1915 operation began over 18.4 miles to Belotta, California. Road reported having one locomotive, 2-passenger cars, andn five freight cars. On January 18, 1919 the railroad was sold at forclosure to E. F. Davis. On January 7, 1927, the entire capital stock was purchased by a new Nevada company, the Stockton Terminal & Eastern Railroad Company. As of December of 1941 the company reported having 18.48 miles of track from Stockton to Bellota, California. Further, the railroad had 3.36 miles of dpurs, sidings and yard track. Equipment included one steam locomotive and three freight cars. As of 1986 the company reported currently having 13.79 miles of road. Formerly the Southern Pacific had a line to Oakdale, California from Stockton. They obtained trackage rights over similar Santa Fe track and abandoned their line. All of the Stockton industrial customers, and the track to serve them, went to the Stockton Terminal and Eastern. As of this writing the company servives.
