SP 2300 4-6-0 Series TEN-WHEELERS

SP 4-6-0 #10

Image, Early Southern Pacific 4-6-0 #10 Order No. SP10I Believed to be originally built by Rogers in the 1880's this classic 4-6-0 engine #10, seen here in double-headed service, is an obvious cast off from somewhere else or from one of the SP's many subsidiaries. It does not match any assigned SP roster number we could find. Shopping Cart 8.5" by 11", Price - $ 5.00 [Add To Cart] -------------------

SP 4-6-0 #379

Image, SP (T&NO) 4-6-0 #379, early 1930's Order No. SP379I Shown somewhere in Louisiana in an engine area, this nice little 4-6-0 #379 poses for the camera. Built in 1897, this little gem had worn the name of the Galveston, Houston & San Antonio, the Texas & New Orleans, and finally, the Southern Pacific by 1929. SP 4-6-0 #1589

Image, Early SP 4-6-0 #1589 poses with crew Order No. SP1589I Although the date and location are unknown, other history tells us much about the image. First, it is identical to several 4-6-0's built for the SP in the 1870's and 80's by Schenectedy that went on to see continued service well into the 1930's. It is earlier as it has no air brakes, still burns wood and has a wooden cab (pre-1910). It has to be pre 1900 as it has no automatic coupler (mandatory by 1900). Finally, its number #1589 tells us it was in the earlier part of the second SP system numbering scheme between 1885 and 1901. Thus, it is probably circa 1890. SP 4-6-0 #1617

Image, Early SP of Arizona 4-6-0 #1617/crew Order No. SP1617I The railroad boys pose for the camera in front of Early Southern Pacific of Arizona 4-6-0 locomotive #1617. Picture had to be between 1885 when it was renumbered to #1617 and before 1901 when it was renumbered again at the time SPofA became part of SP. While definitely showing its age, this image is crystal clear. Note the link and pin coupler, the lack of an air hose, and the early headlight and the laterns the two men on the left side are holding. This was a dangerous time to be a railroadman.
