SCLBR - Shay #2

Photo, Santa Cruz Lumber Shay #2 in action! Order No. SCLBR1AP Photographer Stoes worked for the Santa Cruz Lumber Company at the time this view was taken. The seven mile railroad, including an incline, ran along Pescadero Creek. It was used in logging the Butano area of the Santa Cruz Mountains. As the locomotive backed up it forced the logs off the flatcar into the millpond. The mill was near Waterman Gap on the headwaters of Pescadero Creek. It should be noted that there was no #1 locomotive. Stoes himself cut out papermache letters and numbers and taped them to the otherwise numberless engine just for this photograph. -------------------- SCLBR - Shay #2 "View 2"
