RICHMOND, FREDERICKSBURG & PATOMAC RR CO.
(Richmond - Washington Co.)
============================================
Snapshot History: The Richmond, Fredericksburg & Patomac originally built between those landmarks, was a 118 mile railroad which operated primarily in the State of Virginia. It was the main corridor for all southern railroads entering into and out of Washington, DC. Evidently, it ended in the middle of the Patomac River where it originally joined the Pennsylvania Railroad on their bridge (Before the bridge was a ferry). The Pennsy had the rest of the short piece into Washington. In 1901 when the RF&P came under the control of the Richmond-Washington Company, that Washington to Patomac River section became part of the RF&P. The shareholders in the Richmond-Washington Company included the State of Virginia, ACL, B&O, C&O, PRR, SAL and SOU.
