Snapshot History: Peoria & Pekin Union Railway Co. Begun in September of 1880 Between Peoria and Pekin Illinois, this company eventually became a short line switching operation between as many as 14 major railroads entering and leaving the Peoria, Illinois area. With tracks on either side of the Illinois River and a bridge between it still operates over 125 miles of interconnecting lines and severices more than 30 industrial customers. In the earlier part of its history, when passenger interchange was so important, it became the end point and starting point for passengers transfering between the many railroads served. Today the company continues with eight diesel locomotives and connects between eight major railroads. The P&PU is jointly owned by the Canadian National, the Norfolk Southern, and the Union Pacific.

Still, the image definately says the 1920's and the short and frequent train service over the Peoria & Pekin Union 11.3 mile main line. The company was running 40 trains a day each way between Peoria and Pekin at the time this picture was taken. --------------------
