The NASHVILLE, CHATTANOOGA & ST LOUIS RAILWAY
===============================================
The Nashville Chattanooga & St. Louis Railway Begun in 1845, the N.C. & St. L. would shortly complete its initial 151 miles. Some years later in 1880 financial control would fall to the Louisville & Nashville Railroad. Even so, the N.C.& St.L. continued to be its own successful organization. At one time it had over 1,000 miles of mainline with trackage all the way to Atlanta. Georgia and beyond. It would operate as its own entity for 112 years. In 1957 the NC&StL was merged into parent L&N. In 1902 Louisville & Nashville had become an Atlantic Coast Line property but remaind independent. ACL became part of Seaboard and the family Lines. When that all became CSX in the early 1980's the L&N ceased to exist. Much of the original NC&StL is still in operation today, but under the CSX flag.
