KANSAS, OKLAHOMA & GULF RAILWAY COMPANY
============================================
Historical Snapshot: The Kansas, Oaklahoma & Gulf Railway was incorporated July 31, 1919, as a reorganization and consolidation of the Missouri, Oklahoma and Gulf Railway Company, The Missouri, Oklahoma & Gulf Railroad (of Kansas), and the Missouri, Oklahoma & Gulf Railway of Texas. On June 7, 1924, the reconstituted Kansas, Oklahoma & Gulf Railway, along with its owned and leased subsidiaries, went back into receivership. In June of 1925, the Muskogee (holding) Compamy of Oklahoma acquired 90-percent ionterest in the K. O. & G.and its susidiaeies. On May 1, 1926 the company, umder new control, was returned to former legal status under an acceptable reorganization plan of old for new securities. As of December 1940, the company's maine line included 2.57 miles in Kansas, 297.50 miles in Oklahoma, and 9.00 miles in Texas. Its operation was from Baxter Springs, Kansas, via Muskogee and Oklahoma City Oklahoma, to Denison, Texas. The K.O.& G. also operated two Oaklahoma short branches and made connections with eight other major railroads. Motive power was listed at 17 steam locomotives and rollingstock included 99 active freight cars, three passenger cars, and two Gas motor railcars. The Deceber 31, 1960, report indicated no change in basic operations with the end of passenger service some time during 1953. Also, agreements had been reached between the Midland Valley Railroad and the Oklahoma City-ADA- Atoka Railroad (other Muskogee Co. RR properties), that joint facilities and trackage would be used where possible. The three companies met at Muskogee, Oklahoma, where the companies offices and parent were located. One of the K.O.& G.'s primary businesses over the years was providing a shortcut for the Missouri Pacific at Oklahoma City to its subsidiary Texas & Pacific at Denison Texas. Thus, it was not a suprise when the Texas & Pacific Pacific purchased the company and made it part of its own system in 1964. The Texas & Pacific was merged into the Missouri Pacific in 1976.
