ILLINOIS CENTRAL GULF RAILROAD (ICG)

Historical Snapshot: The llinois Central Railroad Co. merged with Gulf, Mobile & Ohio Railroad Co. on August 10, 1972 to become the Illinois Central Gulf. From then until February 29, 1988 the ICG company sold off or abandoned most of the former GM&O parallel track or low density lines. On and after that date a new private company, the Illinois Central Railroad Company, took it over.
