  Snapshot History:

 Two brothers started the Granite Rock Construction Company
 around the turn of the century at Logan, California.
 The Company grew and grew until finally it was split into
 two companys, Granite Construction and Granite Rock with
 one brother controlling each.

 Today the family continues.  Granite Construction does
 small jobs like driveways to larger jobs like interstate
 highways. Granite Rock continues to supply the building
 and construction raw materials from sand, to aggregate,
 to rock.  It is one of the best run corporations in the
 country having received many business awards for new and
 inovative manufacturing technics and economic policies.

 pulling a narrow guage rock cart is photographed with

Early Granite Rock Logan Quarry

 The switch tracks leading to the Granite Rock quarry is
 photographed along with all that which makes for an
 active day. (Circa 1900 - 1910)  This was a time when
 horses and mules provided the muscle to move the loaded
 carts to the quarry and when men did the daily shoveling
 of rock.

 Granite Rock's retired 0-6-0T standard guage yard
 locomotive poses on the dead line.  Although beat
 and begragled in this view the engine lives on
 under steam today at the California State Railroad
 Museum.  Granite Rock not only donated the locomotive
 but also provided the money and manpower to restore it
 to operating condition.
