Snapshot History: The Cincinnati, Flemingsburg & Southeastern Railroad was incorporated in Kentucky on June 1, 1905. It was successor to, through purchase of, the Covington, Flemingsburg & Ashland Railroad. Though the name of the company implied a large concern, the railroad never reached more than about 7 miles in length between the towns of Johnson and Flemingsburg, Kentucky. As of the 1910 time table, the C. F. & S., in addition to freight service, also carried passengers. There were six round trips per day, every day except Sunday. On December 31, 1919 the company was reorganized during which its name was changed to the Flemingsburg & Northern Railroad. The new company had no freight cars of its own. It did have according to 19126 records three passenger and service cars. Sometime during the 1930's the company purchased a self powered gasolene-electric passenger car for passengers and mail service. Operational length - 5.6 miles from Flemingsburg, Kentucky to Flemingsburg Junction. The railroad included one-mile of yard tracks and sidings. All rail was 58.25 pounds. The Flemingsburg & Northern probably furnished the Louisville & Nashville with sufficient freight as it was reported that the L & N had made the company a few small loans from time to time, This little down home short line would go on to operate for 50 years.
