Historical Snapshot: * The genesis of the system (Erie Railroad Co.) was the New York & Erie Railroad created in 1832. * Incorporated Novenber 14, 1895 The Erie Railroad, like the other eastern trunk lines The New York Central, The Pennsylvania, and the Baltimore & Ohio, would go on to have long and varied histories of growth, reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions. This information is contained im several books. * January 31, 1931: The company reported they had 2,459 miles of main line, 1,428 miles of second main line track, * October 17, 1960; Merged with Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad to become Erie-Lackawana Railroad Company. * March 1968: Succeeded by Erie-Lackawanna Railway Co. * April 15, 1976: Became part of Conrail.
