Snapshot History: July 1 1937: The Duluth Missabe & Iron Range Railway was organized as a consolidation of the Duluth, Missabe & Northern Railway and the Spirit Lake Transfer Company. Both companies were profitable at the time and had been around since 1875. In January of 1938 they also acquired all of the assets of the Duluth & Iron Range Railroad Company and subsequently merged it into DM&IR Railway. As of 1941 the company was the largest iron ore shipper in the United States. The company operated 121 locomotives, 21 passenger cars, and 13,750 freight cars. As of 1961 the company reported 535 miles of mainline and 170 miles of second track. the company also reported they operated over an additional 510 miles of spurs, sidings, yard track and trackage rights track. They operated with 168 locomotives, 18 passenger cars and 15,000 freight cars. May 10 2004: Blackstone Inc. owners of (GLT)/DM&IR sold the company to Canadian National.

There were only a total of seven Pacific's on the Company Roster. three were class P Pacific's #400-#402 and four were class A Pacific's #1107-#1110. The class P's were the heavier of the two, 245,700 lbs, and were used primarily in passenger service.
