DETROIT, CARO & SANDUSKY RAILWAY CO.
======================================
Historical Snapshot: The Detroit, Caro & Sandusky Railway Co. was incorporated On May 28, 1925 to purchase and operate a 41.85-mile portion of the Detroit, Bay City & Western R.R. Company from Caro to Roseburg, Michigan. Also included were 6.86 miles of spurs, sidings and yard trackage. Reported as of August, 1926: The company had seven steam locomotives, two flat cars, 92 gondolas, one insulated box car, five coaches and three combine baggage/coach/smoker cars. All cars were still marked for Detroit, Bay City & Western. The company had three interchane points: Caro - Michigan Central, Sandusky - Pere Marquette, and at Wilmot - Pontiac, Oxford & Northern (later - Grand Trunk Western). As of December 31, 1940, the company reported having five steam locomotives, only nine freight cars and one caboose. Rail was 67 to 80 poumds. By the early 1950's business was probably no longer sufficient to support the road. Likewise, The Detroit, Caro & Sandusky's steam engines were about due for expensive diesel replacement. Thus, on July 14, 1953, the road was both abandoned and disolved.
