CENTRAL VERMONT RAILROAD COMPANY (CV)

Historical Snapshot: * The Central Vermont Railway Co. (originally incorporated May 1, 1899) went into receivership on December 12, 1927. On August 22, 1929 the Central Vermont Railroad Company was incorporated in Vermont to succeed the previous company. On January 31, 1930 that formally happened. Control through stock ownership was passed to a subsidiary of the Canadian National Ralway in 1935. The Central Vermont continued to be operated as a separate entity. * As of 1941: The road extended from St. Albans, Vermont to St. Johns, Quebec, Canada. Also from St. Alban's, Vermont to White River Junction and New London, Conneticut. Through trains to Boston and Montreal were also accomplished. Of this 238 miles were owned by the company and 125 miles were leased. The company also operated a group of freight only steamships from New London, Connecticut to New York City. * The company was often referred to As the "Central Vermont Transportation Company." * 1957: Changed to Diesel Power * 1995: With the privatization of the Canadian National CN sold the Central Vermont from New London, Connecticutt to East Alburg, Vermont to Railtex on February 3, 1995. * 2000: On February 4, 2000 Railtex was merged into RailAmerica.
