CHICAGO RAILROAD FAIR 1948 & 1949

The Chicago Rail Fair was a hudge success during its 1948 season. It was so well received that they opened it again from June 25th through October 2nd of 1949. The following are some of the views taken during that two year run by Photographer Fred C. Stoes and others.

Stoes It is the 1948 Railroad Fair in Chicago, Illinois. One of the many locomotives on exhibit was the famous 4-4-0, "GENERAL", #3, belonging to the W & A of Civil War fame. -------------------- The "Wm. Crooks" Photo, Great Northern 4-4-0 #1 Wm. Crooks Order No. GN01P, 11" x 14" GN01NP Photographer: Fred C. Stoes It is the 1948 Chicago Railroad Fair and the Great Northern Railway 4-4-0 #1 is center stage. -------------------- The "J.W. Stoes Already being displayed as an antique by the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society who acquired her in 1937, the Virginia & Truckee "J.W. Bowker" poses at the 1948 Chicago Railroad Fair. -------------------- 1879 Boxcar Photo, 1879 St. Paul & Pacific 20 ton boxcar Order No. MILWDBOXP Photographer: Fred C. Stoes It is 1948 and the Chicago Railroad Fair is in full swing. On display, among other things, was this Haskell & Barker 1879 wooden boxcar built for the St. P & P. Stoes No! it is not the original 4-4-0 engine #119 used in the 1869 transcontinental celebration.
