BOCA & LOYALTON RAILROAD
=============================
Short History: The Boca & Loyalton railroad The company was a 45.2 mile short line connecting between the Southen Pacific at Boca (SP MP-217.74) and the future Western Pacific at Mormon (later Reposa and then Portola). The line opened in 1902 and was purchased by the Western Pacific in September of 1916. Shortly thereafter about 30 miles of the line was abandoned from four miles south of Loyalton to the SP connection at Boca. From then until well after the Union Pacific take over the remaining line followed the same basic alignment with only minor changes in its end points.
Boca - #1 wreck

Stoes Collection Boca & Loyalton locomotive #1 sits helplessly on the ground while all concerned pause to have their photograph taken at this "disaster" site, circa 1900 - 1905 period. -------------------- Boca - #2

Stoes Collection The angle of the view tends to make it hard to believe the engine is actually 4-4-0 #2 on the point of a seven car log train. Originally marked as a 4-6-0 #5, the photographer remarked it as #2 on the print. Either way it is a great Boca & Loyalton early shot. -------------------- Boca 2-8-0 #7

Bogue and his staff pose aboard the officers car of the Boca & Loyalton Railway at Portola Yards in California. The crew of the train and 2-8-0 locomotive #7 likewise take a moment out for posterity. This is a view of original B&L Railway and equipment when the line used to run to Truckee and before the Western Pacific was built. -------------------- Boca 4-6-0
Image, Boca & Loyalton (WP-1916) 4-6-0 Order No. BOCA0XI Original print from the Fred C. Stoes Collection The fact that no number or name appears on this early 4-6-0 suggests that this Boca & Loyalton shot of engine and its train of saw-logs on flats was taken sometime between 1901 and 1905.
