ARKANSAS RAILROAD COMPANY
==============================

Snapshot History: Arkansas Railroad Company The Gould Southwestern Railway was originally incorporated in Arkansas with big plans. Unfortunately it, and the area it served, went through some rough times and it ended up being sold on January 9, 1920 to an unknown entity.. Though one record indicates as of July 1926, the road was being operated by the Arkansas Railroad Company, it was not officially incorporated as such until May of 1927, As of December 31, 1930, the line was 17.8 miles in length from Isom to Star City Arkansas. It had 1.94 miles of spurs, sidings and yard trackage. It was a standard guage operation on 56 to 63 pound rail. The company's motive power and rollungstock was listed at Five steam locomotives and 17 freight cars respectively. There was also one motor/passenger car. External connections were made with the Missouri Pacific at Gould, Arkansas. The first two full years of operation showed small,but positive profits. 1930 was a loosing year, as could be anticipated. As of 1941, the line had changed little except that it reported having only three freight cars, and a caboose. During the last ten years it had managed to add about a half a mile of yard track and spurs. The shot taken in July of 1948 below indicates the road was alive and well at that time. The line was formally abandoned April 10, 1959.
