Historical Notes: * Incorporated September 6, 1917 to build and run a railroad from Holbrook 72-miles to McNary, Arizona. Company was controlled through stock ownership by Southwest Lumber Mills. The line was completed in 1920. * Company went into receivership during the early years of the Depression but was able to pay all debts and came out February 29, 1936. * As of early 1941 the company reported an additional 5.85 miles of spurs, sidings, and yard track. They also had two active locomotives and thirteen service cars. * As of 1961 the company reported owning 3-diesel electric locomotives, two conbine cars and 13 service cars. Control remained the same but under a slightly different name: Southwest Forest Industries. Also the Apache Railway was operating an additional 68 miles of railroad under contract with SFI. * In 1984 the line from Snowflake to McNary was abandoned due to closure of mill at McNary. This included much woods track. The paper mill at Snowflake remained. * Today the mainline has been shortened to about 34-miles in length. Alco 420's and 424's do the day to day work. The company is now controlled by Antibi Consolidated and carries woodchips, paper products and pork products.
