The ANN ARBOR RAILROAD COMPANY
================================

Snapshot History: The Ann Arbor RR Co. - The "Annie" * Begun on September 24, 1895 as a comsolidation of several smaller companies, the Ann Arbor Railroad Company would soon be running the length and bredth of the State of Michigan with freight and passenger trains over its 294 miles of Railroad. In time, it would add freight car ferry service, much of which covered more miles on water than the railroad covered on land. * In 1925 it would become part of the Wabash although it continued to operate as a subsidiary for some years to come. * In 1973 the company went into forclosure; On April 1, 1976 Conrail took its operation over. In October of 1977 the Michigan Interstate Railway took over the line as Conrail only wanted to operate over its southern portion. Subsequently various operators leased the line, or portions of it. * While time and the tide of events has changed much, A Michigan company steped forth in October of 1988, The new Ann Arbor Railroad, and purchased the southern portion of the company from Toledo to Ann Arbor, Michigan. It continues to provide inter- connecting rail service to eleven major rail customers.
